"Dinner's ready....I heard the microwave beep!  It's up there...I see it...you see it?!"    sez Corky.

"Ho-hum" sez Cricket.   "Be patient...it takes Mom a while to fix our supper. Ya might as well chill out, Corky"

Thank you Rose for sharing these fun pictures of Corkey and Cricket!

"Mom and Dad are movin' stuff and painting -- and I'm hiding in here for a while .   Oops...there's Corky -- he managed to sneak in here before I did!   Ewwww!"

We had such a great agility weekend, I don't know where to start.. soooo I guess I will start with the "new kid".... U-Ch Vista Dei Luvme Luvme Not "Daisy" had her debut agility run this weekend, with 2 times in the ring she came away with one qualifying first place score in CPE level 1 jumpers.  Just a start, but I think she has a ton of potential, and you will be hearing alot more from this girl soon!

I am sooooooo PROUD of Drifter and his owner/handler Dave as they had I think their best weekend ever, with FOUR (yup I said FOUR 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 FOUR) qualifying runs in one day, and one of those was a first place score!  Ohhhh way to go guys....

Hector and his owner/handler Denise L had a fantastic weekend at the same CPE trial, where Hector had PERFECT runs every day, and took away 6 qualifying ribbons and ALL first place scores!!! wow!~ how impressive!!!!  His brother Troy did a great job too, and was looking real good out there!  Nice job Denise!

My Darby also did well, had 4 qualifying scores with a First, two Second and a Third Place in his runs.

I heard that Regis and Tim picked up 2 more Double Q's in AKC agility last weekend, taking him up to 8 QQ's towards his MACH3

Once again.. I am in awe of the owners/handlers of these dogs.. and can't thank you all enough for your dedication!!

This past weekend at the USDAA agility trial both Regis and Kiwi earned some new titles!  I can't hardly keep up with them, Christy reports that.. This past weekend at Washingtonville Regis achevied: AAD (Advanced Agility Dog) and on his way toward this title he also got the titles ASA (Advanced Standard Agility) and AS (Advanced Snooker)
This weekend Kiwi achieved the following titles: SJ (Starters Jumpers), SG (Starters Gamblers), SS (Starters Snooker)

I am going to have to find a minute or two or three to update the website!  WAY TO GO GUYS! And the new ASSA (American Shetland Sheepdog Association) handbook came out with Regis' MACH ad in it, so can't wait to see how that turned out.  Might try to scan it for the blog if I can.

I am VERY excited to hear from Denise L this morning that Hector competed in Rally this weekend for the first time at the Golden Triangle Obedience/Rally trials in Cheswick.  He earned 2 legs toward his RN title.  On Sat his score was 97 for 4th place and Sun also a score of 97!!

Wow - WAY TO GO guys!!

Saturday, 11 October 2008

I had a great day today working at my first USDAA agility trial.  It was nice to see Regis and Kiwi and the whole family there, wow were the kids well behaved!  Have to congradulate Tim and Christy on that, it was more impressive than all the agility runs to see both kids having fun and being very VERY good all day long!  I found that USDAA agility wasn't that much different, the biggest differance was the higher jumps.  I was the gate steward for the day and Dave was the scribe.

On an aside note, but something that I am very proud of, I am now an official AKC evaluator for the CGC (Canine Good Citizen) program.

Rose sent us some updated pictures of Corky.. said she couldn't get any yet of Corky and Cricket together cause they run too fast when they play!  Looks and sounds like Corky is still his same devilish self.. you know when I was considering keeping him, he was going to get the registered name of "Vista Dei That One's Trouble" hehehehehhe

Nessie (used to be Delilah) came over for a little stay while her owners went on vacation.  She has gone back home now and things are quieter without her.  I think Dahl is missing her, he is sitting on the patio table looking and looking for his playmate.  Darlin' taught him how to jump up on a chair and then up on the table.. now Darlin' Destiny and Dahl all sit there like pirates looking out over the sea..  Of course sometimes they grab the edge of the big Sun Umbrella and pull it while they run around in a circle on the table.  Kinda killed one earlier this year and this new one looks like it might not make it through the fall.  It is funny to see all 3 of them try to fit on the table and work around each other to get the position they really wanted.   I just re-glued Dahl's ears.  He is what, about 6 months now and his ears were looking great, then one day BING up the one went.. I waited a few days to see if it would come back down, but noooo way.  So now they are glued again so they will learn to tip nicely.

Wag-N-Train is having another Photo contest this month and yesterday public voting opened.  We are getting a better and better mix of animals each time we run the contest, we have lots of cats and dogs, but a number of horses this time, bunnies, ferrets.. well go check it out for yourself.  Everyone can vote once a day http://www.wag-n-trainllc.com/

Dave and I set up the Wag-N-Train booth at a Doberman rescue event last weekend and I will be set up at the Humane Society Fund Raising Walk in the Park this coming Sunday.  We really enjoy these events, it is nice to talk to people about where they got their dogs and meet the dogs.  We baked dog cookies and they were a big hit, as well as our car magnets.  Everyone seems to love those.. so I just got in a bigger selection, and hope they will be shipped before this weekend.

Vista Dei dogs had a nice weekend at Neville Island in agility this weekend.  The courses were TOUGH, but here are our results:

U-CH Sirius Stellar Performance CD,RN,OA,1/3OAJ,NAJ,NAP,NJP,1/3NF,
CL3-R,CL2-H,CL2-F,CGC,OV
"Darby" place first in Excellent A Standard with a clean run giving him is first leg towards his AX title, and he was handled by myself.

Vista Dei Luvme Geneveive RN,NA,NAJ,NJP,2/3NAP,OAJ,2/3OA,CGC,TDI "Genni " placed second in a BEAUTIFUL run in Excellent JWW for her first leg toward her AXJ title, handled by Shawn

Vista Dei Hector of Troy NA,NAJ,OAJ,1/3OA, CL1-R,CL1-H,CGC  "Hector" Placed First in 2 Open JWW classes to finish his OAJ title, and also qualified in Open Standard for his first let toward his OA title. Hector was the ONLY dog to qualify among the 16" and 12" jump height in BOTH jumpers and standard on Saturday!  Wonderful handling by his owner Denise L, who also handled his "brother" Troy to a new title this weekend.. way to go guys!

Vista Dei Race Against Time NA,NAJ,OA,OAJ,AX,AXJ, 3/10MXJ 2/10MX,NF "Kiwi" and MACH 2 Vista Dei Luvme Like A Rock FX,AD "Regis" BOTH earned QQs! That brings Regis' total up to 6 toward MACH3. This was Kiwi's first QQ in Exc B. She also is 3/10 toward MXJ, and 2/10 toward MX. An interesting tidbit - Kiwi is 8 days younger than Regis was when he earned his first QQ!  Both expertly handled by owner Tim Manzewitsch

We were also glad to see Vista Dei The Storm Chaser NA,NAJ,2/3OAJ,2/3OA,1/3RN,CGC "Drifter" at the shows this weekend after a long nearly year out of the rings.. Although he didn't qualify in his runs I am confident that after resuming trials Drifter will be an exciting dog to watch in the months ahead. Thanks to his owner Dave for getting him back out there competing.

This again was another weekend of trials featuring three generations of my "Vista Dei" dogs entered in the same shows and I am so proud of all of them and their committed owner/handlers!!

THANKS GUYS!

Another Pet Food Recall...

There was another Pet food recall issued this weekend, so far no animals have been sick, but there is possible contamination of foods, including the Pedigree brand.  For more info:

Wellllll... it was ma big day at the doggie show, and I had a pretty good time except for pukin' my toenails inside out on the drive out.  There were lottsa nice people out there to see me, Miz Rose and Mr Ray came all the way from Indiana to watch, and some of their friends were there, too. And the pooper scoopin ladies all came to cheer me on, and some judges came and petted me afterward.  I was deeply honored and Miz Crystal was just blown away by the people who know me and care about me.

So, I got there and still wasn't feelin' all that good when I went into the ring, but the judge was very very kind to me and very soft wif me and Miz Crystal was very greatful for that.  He looked at me and felt my boy bits, and was so impressed wif em he gived me a first place blue ribbon in Open Sable males.  Well, Miz Crystal said I had to tell you I was the only dog in that class, and it had nuthin to do wif ma boy bits, but I think it did!

I like ma pretty blue ribbon and I am very proud of it!  I went back in and got another ribbon little later, it was a purple and white reserve ribbon, so I got's two ribbons to hang on the wall with the millions of ribbons Mr. Darby has, and I loved everybody, and I didn't have nuthin left to get sick with on the way back home and I got ma chicken nugget at McDonalds.  O it was a good day, and I am going to get to do it some more now and again, so that I am always bein' "shown" and can stay here at Miz Crystal's house, but I will do it at shows closer to ma home so I don't have 4 hours of driving, I think that will be better.  Thank you to everyone that came and cheered me on, and thank you all for being nice to Miz Crystal and for caring about me!

Luv,

Ricki

NOW she is puttin POWDER on ma nose and ma feet and makin' me sneeze.  She said it cause I goin to that show tomarrow.. I reminded her I get car sick, so it not matterin much if ma whites are white, cause they will have puke on um before I gets there, but she said tuff noogies, has to get the baff and blow dry any ways or the judge will think we disrespecten him.  Oh well, she told me iffn I was good, maybe a McDonald's Chicken nugget on da way home.. oh oh there she comin wif some scissors now... Yipppeeeee Our Blog is back on line!!!  That was a scarey 2 days, I was really hoping the whole blog didn't get wiped out when the host crashed.  I got a little letter from Hector the other night.. made me REAL happy...

Hey Mz Crystal, it's me Hector.  Mom took me to Washingtonville today and I ran my little legs off.  I got a little mixed up on one of the jumps and had a double fault but I DID IT!!!  I got my novice standard title today with a first place win.  I got a pretty blue and white title ribbon and a nice little toy just for playing on agility equipment.  Then after a short break, I got to do it again but this time only with jumps and weaves -- boy I sure do love those weave poles.  And guess what?????  I did it again -- this time perfectly for another 1st place win.  They gave me another blue and white ribbon for my novice jumpers title and I got another toy.  My brother didn't like the judge being so close to him on the A-frame so he ran really slow and was 8 seconds over time but he did run faster the last time for a 1st place in open weaves.  Tomorrow we get to go back for my first runs in open.

And THEN I got a note from Hector's momma that he also got a Q the next day in his first Open Jumpers run!  Way to go guys.. I knew that little Weeee had it in him even when he was about a month old he was just a weeee blur running through the house..  Congratulations Denise L!!

For those of you emailing and asking for Ricki updates.. there really isn't anything new.  Ricki will stay here and be shown now and again, and I will wait and see if they file a law suit.  Thank you to everyone who has written and left comments of support and offers of help.  I know if I have to go to North Carolina and defend this for Ricki, I won't be alone.  To my friends.. your comments have brought tears to my eyes.. what a wonderful group of people you are.  I will keep you updated on the situation through this blog, thank you again for the wonderful offers of assistance, it has really shocked me how many people DO care.

Hello every buddy!  Ma name is Ricki... I wasn't  allowed to talk on dis blog before, cause it made somebuddy mad, but Miz Crystal sez that don't matter no more, and I am allowed to talk to you.  That is real good, cause I got sumptin to say.

Since ma story and pictures were posted here, there have been 3,933 hits to this site. Lots of people know me now and Miz Crystal sez I don't just belong to 2 co-owners anymore, now I belong to the whole world and all of you will help keep me safe, and help look out for all the other "Ricki's" out there.  If the laws don't protect me, change the laws.  If I ever have to go back, don't let me disappear.

I have ta tell you, that sum people blamin' breeders for conditions like you saw in ma pictures, but breedin' don't have nuthin to do wif it.  There are sum breeders who are good, and sum are bad.  There are sum people wif lots of dogs that are good and sum are bad.  There are millions of people wif just one or two pets and sum are good and sum are bad.  There are rich people and poor people, and bein' either one don't make you good or bad.  You see what I am sayin?

It is about layin' in the sunshine and running in the grass and eating ice cream at the table even when you know you shouldn't.  It is about havin' your own corner on the couch and gettin' a kiss on the head every night before bed and maybe an extra treat just cause you are you. Dat what make a difference in life, and it pretty nice not to be ichy, too.

Fur now, Miz Crystal and sum nice lawyers think that as long as I go to shows, I can stay here wif no troubles at all.  So when you sees me at the shows, please don't make no fun of me or laugh at Miz Crystal.  She knows I not gonna win, but when ever you sees me go round the ring, please remember ma pictures and remember why I am there, and say a little prayer for all the doggies all over the world just like me.  If the person sittin beside you ring side sez sumptin' nasty, wack em upside the head, then tell them ma story.  Oh, I hate to say dis, but Miz Crystal not all dat good at show groomin, so if anybuddy want to stop by and help make me look real nice before I go in da ring, I'd like dat, just don't tell Miz Crystal I said that, ok?  I see you at Chagrin Falls, OH show Sunday Aug 24, stop by and say "hi"!

Thanks for caring about me...

Monday, 04 August 2008

Well it is 8:30 am and the co-owner and her mother (who was the person who actually had custody and care of Ricki when he was sent to me) have come and gone, but Ricki remains here for the time being.  Police were called, and the mother stood there saying, you poor poor thing - so thin living in a dump puppy mill.. when I brought Ricki out for them to see in front of the police.  So he is here, and they are gone, but this story has just begun, and not ended.  I know alot of you who have left comments have been here and visited me at my "dump puppy mill" and have seen Ricki, so I am really not going to get into a battle of words one way or another... I will just let the pictures speak for themselves and invite anyone who really wants to come and visit me and my dogs, you are welcome to call and come over..

Our contract says: As part of this agreement, if said dog is not being shown or bred to Buyer’s own bitches, said dog may be sent to Breeder/Seller’s residence for breeding at Breeder/Seller’s expense.   So Saturday,  I entered Ricki in AKC shows, and he will be in Chagrin Falls, OH showing in Open Sable Males on Aug 24th.  I believe this keeps me within the contract, so we will see if that holds up in court action.  Again, if anyone would like to see Ricki, and his current condition, the show is open to the public, and I will be happy to let any breeders there go over him in detail.

Unfortunately, I do not know if I spoke out in time to stop them from buying the other dog/dogs they were up here to get..  To the other breeders involved in selling dogs.. please stop.. please stop.. to anyone who believes this was an isolated incident of the mother's involvement, let me assure you she stood here claiming Ricki as hers and is very involved in the situation.

When I started this blog way back in Feb of 2005, I invited our readers to "Join me here for the good times and bad times, the joys and sorrows, the wins and losses" and I have been very pleased that there haven't been too many bad times.  Life with the animals is fun and exciting, watching them develope and grow, loving them and laughing at their antics.

I started in this hobby because I love animals, and now a situation has come up, that I have been struggling with in my heart for some time now, and no good solution has presented itself.  As many of you know, I co-own a dog named Ricki.  He has lived with me for over 3 years and has sired 2 litters here.  I have offered to buy Ricki outright for $1,500 several times, but as of just a week ago, his co-owner turned down that offer.  She is coming to pick him up this weekend to take back to her home, as is her right under our contract.

I am concerned.. I will give him to her, as required in our contract, but I simply can not do so without publically addressing my concerns in the matter, and I think after seeing the following pictures you might understand.

Someone has to speak for Ricki... and so these pictures will, and pictures don't lie.

This is Ricki this morning, laying on my bed, but he didn't always look like this:

This was Ricki when he got off the plane 3 years ago

He was very unsteady on his feet, could not walk up or down stairs, he didn't limp or stagger, rather flopped around like he developmentally challanged and didn't have control of himself.

His one back leg is twisted and at an odd angle to his body, at first I thought it was broken, but it is not

Got him standing up a little better, but you can see because of the long nails, he balanced his weight on the joint connecting his foot to the hock, rather than putting weight on his feet

His body is covered in sores like this under the coat, diagnosed the next day as a wide spread fungal infection.

As I started to groom his back feet, I noticed something razor sharp and blue entangled in the hair.

As I cut in further, it was a chewed piece of plastic pop bottle and was imbedded in the tender skin up between the foot pad, being held into place with matted hair.

Feces matted in the coat, even after 2 baths

One foot is done, compair a proper trim to the neglect of the other foot

There are dred-lock type matts in the hair, these are not simple tangles that develope with a few weeks of no grooming, these are weighty and solid masses, and there are areas of the coat that have obviously had such matts chopped out before he was shipped

I removed 14 fully engored ticks, unfortunately I kept flushing them down the toilet as I killed them, instead of keeping them all for a "group photo" as I didn't realize how extensive the infestation was going to be!<

The grooming continued for days ,I wormed him, the Advantage flea meds started to take affect, he had a healthy appetite and a sweet gentle personality, tho it seemed he had no experience walking on a leash, nor was he physically able to walk up and down steps, he had to be carried out to the yard for potty.  I allowed him in the outside run, away from the dog yard, as I didn't want to spread anything even through the ground. Monday morning AM was straight to the vets.  He was examine for injuries that might be causing the problems in his hind legs, it was determined there were no breaks, no fresh injuries, and that his difficulty walking was from habit of trying to avoid putting weight on painful feet. He was put on a two week run of antibiotics, along with an immediate shot of antibiotic, given anti fungal shampoo the $25 a bottle prescription stuff. (he had to be bathed in it every other day for nearly 2 months, he would just heal up, and break out again and again with this fungal infection).  I spoke to his owner on the phone and emailed these pictures.  Was told I was over-reacting and if anything was wrong with that condition, her vet wouldn't have cleared him for the flight

This is the beautiful dog Ricki has become while living here the last 3 years.... and I am very concerned what the future holds for him.

I am soooooooo PROUD of our Vista Dei crew this weekend... they are really RUNNING.....

Announcing

MACH 2 Vista Dei Luv Me Like a Rock FX,AD  "Regis"

Owned and Handled by Tim Manzewitsch -  Regis finished his MACH 2 on Friday at the Golden Retriever Club of Greater Pittsburgh trial in Cheswick. He earned a 3rd place in Standard and a 1st place in JWW.

Tim's wife Christy gives some interesting stats about this MACH: Regis earned the 20 QQs in 42 events, 12 fewer events than MACH 1. He also earned 10 QQs in his last 12 tries.

Regis had another QQ today I hear, the first towards MACH 3!!  To understand what a MACH title is.. Regis earned allllll these titles NA, NAJ,OA, OAJ, AX, AXJ, MXJ, MX and how has had 40 "double Q's" meaning 40 times he ran perfect runs under time in both the standard ring and the Jumpers with weaves ring.  Even one little mistake or a fraction of a second off and the whole day doesn't count on either run, both runs must "Q" (qualify) in addition he must earn so many "speed points" earned by being seconds under course time, last I knew he was well over 2,500 speed points also.

Congratuations to the whole Manzewitsch family for their commitment to Regis and Kiwi and taking them to the top of a difficult sport.. THANK YOU!! You make me so proud!

In addition, today at Cheswick Regis's LITTER MATE, Vista Dei Luvme Geneveive RN,NA,NAJ,NJP,2/3NAP,1/3OA,2/3OAJ,CGC,TDI owned and handled by Shawn Funk, earned a first place in Open Jumpers with Weaves!  Way to go Shawn and Genni!

Also one of the newest of the Vista Dei clan, Vista Dei Hector of Troy CGC earned a first place in both Novice Standard and Novice Jumpers with Weaves, Owned and handled by Denise Letterman.  Denise's other sheltie Troy took second place in both classes, what a nice start to their agility careers!

I am sooooo proud of all of you guys!

Mamma Rose, Mamma Rose... Miz Crystal says I am too smart fur a doggie, I must be a little boy in a fur coat.  I figured sumtin out.. when she calls "nite nite" that means she is going ta put those brown crunchy nummms  in our crates for dinner.  All them other dogs is silly, they run inta the crates when she says Nite Nite, but I KNOWS the door shuts after ya get in there and then you's stuck for a while.  So when she says Nite nite, I runs the other way.  I wait till them big doggies get their crunchy nummms and their door is shut and then I stick ma little nose through the wire on their crate and snagg them's nummms wifout having to go in my OWN crate to get 'em.  Now grandpa Darby he don't like that trick a mine very well and he says #@#$$%%^#%^T@$% and shows ma his teefie, but I eat him nummmmms anyway cause he canna bite me through that wire.  Miz Crystal picks me up and puts me in ma own crate fur ma own dinner, but I think it is more fun and adventurous ta eat THIS way.  Oh and I pulled ma ear glue out too, now I gots a bald spot but that wanna ma fault, I was playing real hard wif Delilah and dem ears got in ma way...

Luv and kissin'

Once again, Tim and the dogs had a GREAT WEEKEND!!  Regis is only one more double Q from a MACH2 and Kiwi finished her excellent title!!  Christy writes:

This weekend in Albion, MACH Vista Dei Luvme Like a Rock FX "Regis" did great with 3 QQs, and another leg in FAST. He has 19 QQs toward his MACH 2! His next show is July 18-20 at Cheswick, and hopefully he will hit the MACH 2 down there. He also now has 7 legs in FAST toward his MXF title.

Vista Dei Race Against Time AX,OAJ,NF "Kiwi" also had a great weekend, earning her Excellent Standard title on Friday. She also got two legs in Excellent JWW, meaning she has just one more leg to get her Excellent JWW title! Her JWW times were really fast - faster than Regis! She earned 1st place each time she qualified. She also earned her leg toward her Open FAST title.

I am SOOOOOO proud and excited!!

Dave and I set up a booth for Wag-N-Train at the Bethel Park Pet Care and Adoption Fair last week.  We had so much fun meeting people, and there were alot of people there with their animals, and some were adopted from the various rescue groups.  We gave gift bags to everyone who adopted that day.
